working from home

I am one of those lucky people who gets to work from the comfort of their own home, and I absolutely love it. I have been working from home full-time for the past nine months, as a freelance copywriter and blogger, and also as a small business owner. I must admit, I have never been happy.

For me, working from home is the perfect option. While I really enjoy being able to work from home, I have had quite a few negative comments about it. Comments like, “Working from home must be so boring, I don’t know how you do it.”, and “It won’t last, in a few months time you’ll have a real job.” I’m sure that anyone who works from home will agree with me on this, working from home is a real job and no, it’s not boring.

I am one of the thousands of people in the UK who choose to work from home, and for me, it’s the perfect way to work. It might not be for everyone, but for me, working from home is ideal. For anyone who still isn’t convinced that working from the comfort of your own home is the best, here are four reasons why I love it, and so would you.

1. I don’t have to commute

The idea of having to commute to and from work is a scary and stressful thought. The thought of having to get up early, just to spend an hour or so, sat in traffic really does not appeal to me. Working from home means that I don’t have to commute, which I am sure you will appreciate is a fantastic bonus of home-based working.

As well as saving time, and not spending a huge chunk of my day driving to and from work, I also save money by not commuting. I don’t have to pay for fuel, I don’t have to pay for parking, and best of all, my insurance is lower because I don’t use my car for commuting.

2. I have no boss breathing down my neck

I have had plenty of jobs where I have had to deal with having a boss watching my every move, and I have to tell you, I hated it. If I am put under too much pressure, I struggle to think, and as a copywriter, that’s a real problem. I need to be creative when I am working, which is something that I really struggle to do, when I know that someone is monitoring and watching me.

3. I can wear whatever I like

I know that there is lots of stylish work wear out there, but I’m just not a work wear kind of girl. I am the type of girl who likes to dress in cute, casual outfits, I hate wearing anything that’s too over the top. I live in combos of skinny jeans and oversized shirts, and day dresses and cute cardigans.

For me, one of the major perks of working from home is being able to wear whatever I like, and no, that does not mean I work in pajamas. I might be at home, but the idea of spending all day in my jammies does not appeal to me, at all.

4. I get to choose what my work space looks like

As any home worker will know, a massive bonus of working from home is being able to design your own working space. While I would love an office of my own, for now, I have had to settle with a corner of my living room.

However, as my desk is positioned under the stairs, I have transformed the area into a chic office area. This area is complete with a vintage desk, wall art, candles, and of course, a vintage-inspired cushion, for my chair.

There are so many awesome benefits of working from home – these are just a few of them. Admitedly, home working isn’t for everyone, but if you are someone who loves their own space – aka is an introvert, it’s the ideal way to work.
