beauty brawl

Welcome to day five of the Bloggers Christmas Beauty Brawl, we’re HALFWAY THERE! If you’ve been following out reviews over the past few days, you will know what the Bloggers Christmas Beauty Brawl is all about. (If you haven’t been following our very special Christmas collaboration, you can read all about it here.)

Today we are reviewing our foundation choices, and my chosen product is Rimmel BB Cream 9-in-1 Perfecting Super Makeup – it’s a bit of a mouthful I know. I opted for a BB cream rather than a full foundation because I only need light coverage, as I don’t tend to suffer from blemishes or breakouts. (Something that I am very thankful for.) It may be a BB cream and not technically a foundation, but it does the same job, and is a product that I would actually use, which is why I chose it.

The main reason I chose this BB cream over the various other ones out there was simply because I had heard mixed reviews about it. I had been umming and erring about buying for a while, but could justify it when I was unsure whether I would like it. As I had been dying to try it, as soon as I get involved with the #bxbeautybrawl, I just had to have it.

So what did I think of it? Being a 9-in-1 product, it’s fair to say that I expected big things. According to the packaging this BB cream primes, moisturises, minimises pores, conceals, covers, smoothes, mattifies, brightens, and helps protect. The lightweight formula has been created to give a smooth, flawless finish that looks 100% natural. It also has built in sun protection with an SPF of 25.

When I first tried this out, I used a makeup brush to apply it and hated the results. I found that because this BB cream dries so quickly, I couldn’t work it in properly with the brush. The end result was a cakey, streaky mess. It’s fair to say that I wasn’t impressed.

However, I decided to give it another chance, and I am SO GLAD that I did. On my second attempt to apply the BB cream, I popped a thin layer of moisturising primer underneath, and then used my finger tips to blend it in. (I know, I know, using your fingers to apply foundation is a big no-no, but sometimes, needs must.) I worked quickly with the cream as it’s prone to drying out, and got some fantastic results.

The finish was smooth and sleek, and as promised, flawless. I suffer from redness and dark bags, and couldn’t believe how well this BB cream covered them. One of the main things that I love about this product is the fact that it mattifies, as although I don’t have oily skin, I do get a little shiny. Once I had applied it, I used a small amount of translucent powder to set it in place – Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder is my product of the moment for this.

So I liked it, but the question is, does it last? I thought that it wouldn’t last for more than a couple of hours, but was pleasantly surprised when it stayed in place ALL DAY! I do tend to spritz my face throughout the day with L’Occitane Pivoine Sublime Perfecting Mist, which may have helped a little, but even so, it stayed in place and looked good all day long.

Priced at just £6.99 a tube, I feel like this is amazing value for money. It might only be a drugstore product, but it works well and does what it says on the tube. What makes this even better value for money is the fact that you only need a tiny amount for each use.
