run-biz

When I first started out in business, I was certain that I could do everything single-handedly. But after struggling on my own for a while, it dawned on me that getting help wouldn’t be failing, as I had always thought it would be. Instead, it would be giving my business the very best chance of success.

The truth is, no matter how many hours you put in, you can’t do everything yourself. Or, at least, you can’t do everything properly yourself. By squeezing too much into the time that you have, you’ll only end up getting into a mess. Getting a helping hand with the areas of your business that you’re not able to deal with yourself will help to improve your brand. Plus, by getting a helping hand, the chances are that your business will run much more smoothly.

I know that a lot of small business owners struggle to know what they should get help with and what they should do themselves. With that in mind, I thought that I would share a few areas that I would suggest getting a little extra help with.

Accountants

Let’s be honest about it; maths isn’t everyone’s strong point. While some of us are mathematically minded, others of us are grammar geeks. We each have individual skills, which means that we aren’t always able to deal with everything ourselves. For instance, I’ve always struggled with my accounts, so I choose to outsource them to an accountant. Personally, I think that unless you know what you’re doing with accounting, it’s best to leave it to the professionals. After all, if you get in a muddle with your accounts, you could end up with a fine or worse.

Any legal issues

A mistake that a lot of small businesses make is not taking the legal side of running a business seriously enough. No matter what the size of your business, it’s important to have legal help on hand, so that should you need it, it’s there. Even if you’re not going to use the service just yet, it’s worth researching all the best commercial lawyers in the area, so that should you need help, you know where to turn.

Social media and marketing campaigns

Unless you’re a social media and marketing pro, it can be helpful to outsource your social media and marketing needs to a professional marketing agency. Why? Because if you want to achieve the best results possible from your marketing, you need to go about it in the right way. Putting together a well thought out marketing and social media plan takes time, which is why it’s best to outsource the task to a specialist so that you can concentrate on the other areas of running your business. Ask yourself, do you really have the time to spare to put together your own marketing and social media campaigns? The chances are that the answer is no, and that’s fine – there’s plenty of help out there.

Obviously, there are lots of other services that it can be helpful to have on hand, from PR services to IT services, but those mentioned above are three of the most important. At least, in my book they are, anyway.
