Our home is the place we should be the safest of all. It should be the place we come to at the end of the day to chill out and not have to worry about hurting ourselves or our family hurting themselves.

Implementing a safety plan in your home is crucial if you want to keep yourself and your family safe. There are plenty of ways you can make you home a much safer place and avoid nasty accidents from happening.

First of all, make sure that you use an approved baby gate if you have children or pets to make sure they can’t get up the stairs and hurt themselves.

When your child is in the bath, you need to give them your undivided attention, don’t let anything distract you from your child. If you turn around for even a second you could risk them hurting themselves. Stay in the room with them and play with them while they are in the bath.

If you have a young baby or toddler, make sure that you never place the crib within reach of objects. It will prevent your baby from being able to get up and grab things from your shelves.

It is crucial that you take the time out to plan your escape routes as well as practice the route for if you ever have a house fire.Teaching your children the importance of fire alarm maintenance and why they must never leave a flame unattended in the kitchen is a crucial part of life and could save your life.

Always make sure that you have a smoke alarm on each level of the house. You will also need to test the alarms every six months to make sure that they are working.

If you have any medicine in the house, make sure that you keep it in one place which is safe and out of reach of young children. It doesn’t matter if you take the medicine every day, you need to make sure it doesn’t get near your children in case they ingest any of it by accident.

Never let the kids near the stovetop unsupervised. If you have an induction hob especially this can be dangerous because your child may not realise the hob is on and may put their hand on it and hurt themselves.

Keep sharp object out of reach of kids, and when you are chopping food always point the blade away from you.

Keep all cleaning products and bleaches in a cupboard out of sight from young children and also dogs. Make sure that you never leave antifreeze lying around because your pet may drink it and it is toxic to them.

Make sure that you never leave your TV in an unstable place on the side or the wall. Secure it safely to avoid any accidents happening.

If you want to keep the windows open make sure that you install guards so that the kids and pets cannot reach and fall out of the window.
