I don’t know about you, but personally, when summer comes I like to lead my best life – AKA I like to be as healthy as possible. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about the summer sun that makes me want to give my health a boost. I always find that I feel better in myself when I make what I like to call ‘lifestyle changes’ in the warmer summer months.

So, what do I do to look and feel better in the warmer summer weather? I have a range of health hacks that I find incredibly useful for giving my health a much-needed boost and increasing my wellness by doing so. Below is a guide to all of my best health hacks for the summer months (and beyond).

Mix it up & switch between cocktails & mocktails

With the warmer weather comes the urge to drink lots of yummy cocktails in the sun, or at least, for me it does. However, while it’s perfectly fine to sip the odd cocktail or two in the sun, it’s important to remember that alcohol isn’t all that good for you. So what I like to do is mix it up and combine cocktails and mocktails, to ensure that I’m not drinking too much alcohol. Plus, the added bonus of swapping every other cocktail for a mocktail is that you’re less likely to wake up with the hangover from hell.

Vape don’t smoke

I don’t smoke, but I have friends who do, and what a lot of my friends say is that they smoke more in the summer months, because they are outside more. So what some of them have done is swapped to vaping, which curbs their nicotine craving in a healthier, less toxic way. Plus, if you head over to the VIP website, you’ll see that e-liquids come in lots of yummy, summer-friendly flavours like cherry, banana and even watermelon.

Swap sugar-filled sweet treats for healthier alternatives

If you read my blog or follow me on Instagram, you will know that I have a REALLY sweet tooth. I crave sugar like no one’s business. While I’m happy munching away on chocolate in the winter months, in the summer I like to feel healthier (and better about my body) so I prefer to stick to sweet treats that are a little healthier. While fruit is one of my go-to snacks, I still need my chocolate fix. How do I get it? I eat a small amount of flavoured raw chocolate. Or, I make my favourite healthy chocolate orange truffles that are made from dates, coconut oil, cacao, and orange zest but taste super indulgent and delicious.

Drink more water

I love drinking water, but weirdly only if it’s in a bottle. I don’t know what it is about this, but if I am going to drink the two litres that we’re meant to drink a day, it needs to be in a water bottle. What I find is that when I drink plenty of water, my skin is healthier, my weight is more balanced, and I feel generally better in myself. I personally prefer to drink from a glass water bottle, rather than a plastic one, as I feel like these are healthier, especially due to the inclusion of potentially harmful BPA.

For me, summer is the time of year when I like to lead my healthiest life. For one reason or another, when I’m being healthy, I feel far happier and healthier in myself.
