I’m the kind of girl who loves to travel, but when I travel I like to do so in style. While the concept of backpacking around South America or Interrailing around Europe does appeal to me, I know that once I was actually doing it, I would hate it. I love to travel, I enjoy seeing the world, but I’m not the kind of girl who likes to travel without those little luxury touches.

The term ‘luxury’ is a funny old thing, isn’t it? I mean, what equates to luxury for one person is seen as the norm for others. We all have our own standards when it comes to luxury travel – for some luxury means five-star hotels, fine dining, and massages on tap, while for others it means that little bit extra to what you get at home, that little bit of something special.

When it comes to what we class as luxury, we are all different. What makes a trip for one person might break it for another. So although I can’t speak for all travellers, below is a guide to what makes a trip class as being luxurious for me.

The perfect transportation

For me, one of the most essential factors when it comes to luxury travel is the perfect transportation. If a trip is really going to be luxurious and memorable for all of the right reasons, it needs to start and end well, and for me, that means travelling in style. I hate the stress of airport queues and all the waiting around, which is why I would prefer to fly privately on a Chapman Freeborn plane. What could beat a private flight? The seats are luxurious, there’s usually champagne available, and lots of little perks that you would never normally get.

The most Instagrammable locations

For me, luxury travel means lots of beautiful – or should I say Instagrammable – locations. I love seeing beautiful things, I also love taking photos of them and sharing them on my Instagram feed, which is why I always try and find all of the most amazing locations whenever I head off abroad. It’s not just about famous locations, it’s about finding little gems. Like, when I went to Crete a few years ago, we found this amazing little church that backed onto the sea – I’ve never seen anything like it, it was perfect. Travel is all about finding the quirky places that you otherwise may never see.

Those little treats

Luxury travel is also about all of those amazing little treats that you get to spoil yourself with. For me, heading to a gelato parlour is an amazing treat, or going for afternoon tea in an amazing old building. Having a relaxing massage at a spa is another fantastic little treat. When I’m on holiday, I like to treat myself. I like to do all the things that at home I never have the time for, which is another reason why I prefer luxury travel because it allows me to pamper myself.

What makes a luxury travel trip depends on who you are and what you consider to be luxury – we are all different. For me, my perfect luxury tip is all about relaxing and doing the things that I love.
