There’s nothing worse than not being able to drift off into a restful slumber, is there? You’re laying there in bed and all you want to do is fall into a deep, relaxing sleep, but the more you think about it, the harder it becomes to sleep…

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Insomnia is not nice at all – in fact, it’s a complete and utter nightmare – but the good news is that chronic insomnia is quite rare, which means that as long as you get into a healthy sleep routine, you shouldn’t have any long-term problems drifting off each night.

Finding it hard to get all your beauty sleep? Don’t worry, I’ve been where you are and I know just how stressful not being able to sleep can be. The good news is that there are plenty of things that you can try if you’re finding it hard to drift off at night.

For everything that you need to know, have a read of the tips and ideas below!

Ban screen time

One of the worst things that you can do if you’re struggling to sleep is lay in bed watching television or playing on your smartphone. Blue light which comes from smartphones and televisions can have an impact on your brain’s ability to switch off, which is why it’s important that you ban bedtime screentime.

Instead of laying in bed watching TV or using your tablet or phone, read a book. You will feel 100 times better for it – that’s a promise! About an hour before you want to go to sleep, turn off all screens and instead spend time doing tech-free activities, such as reading a book or doing some adult colouring.

Use herbal help

How about taking advantage of all natural sleep supplements? You might not be all that keen to use supplements to drift off, but there’s nothing wrong with using all natural products, such as natural and herbal sleep drink, Snooze. When I’m ready to go to bed but feel like I can’t sleep, I often find the use of natural and herbal supplements and sleep products extremely helpful.

Meditate

Another handy hack for making it easier for yourself to drift off is to take some time out just before bed to meditate. By meditating, you can help to clear your mind of the stresses and strains of everyday life, which should make the process of drifting off a little easier.

If you struggle to meditate on your own, there are some amazing smartphone apps that can help, such as Calm and Sleep, which both have specific bedtime meditation series’ on offer. If you are keen to reduce your stress and drift off more easily, meditation is a really useful tool.

Don’t stress

Last but not least, don’t worry about not being able to sleep. The more you stress about falling asleep, the harder you will find it to actually drift off. Instead, if you feel like you can’t sleep, cast your mind to somewhere else and focus on something different, instead of obsessing over the fact that you’re struggling to sleep.

There you have it, everything that you need to know about making the process of drifting off to sleep a little easier.
