Considering that I only discovered highlighter earlier this year and now have over 10 of these beautifully pearly, sparkly bad boys in my makeup bag, I think it’s safe to say I have a problem. I love the fact that with a little bit of shimmer, you can bring extra life to your face, hide your flaws, and transform yourself into a DISCO BALL.
At first, I only used highlighter for dinner dates with the fiance or special occasions, but now thanks to the highlighter hype that all us makeup addicts are on, I wear it day in, day out. It’s like without my highlighter, I feel naked. Wherever I’m going, if I’m wearing makeup I NEED MY HIGHLIGHTER.
Like all obsessions, mine has a cause. The strobing trend that’s all over Instagram has left me with serious makeup envy. I see these girls with the perfect highlight. Their skin looks flawlessly shimmery and I want it. I want to look like them. I want to learn their skills. I want to know what their highlighter is… I am CRAZY OBSESSED. The result of this is that at every opportunity, I like to smear myself in highlighter. After all, practice makes perfect, right girls?
The one that started it all was the Seventeen Shimmer Brick. It was my first highlighter and I LOVED IT from day one. The fact that it would not only bronze my cheeks but also add a subtle shimmer was all it took for me to fall head over heals in love. If you want a natural-looking shimmer and a beautiful bronze, this is a fantastic buy.
Today, I switch between various highlighters. From my Smashbox Soft Lights Duo to Freedom Pro Highlight, I like to mix things up and switch up my highlighter of choice. Right now I am crazy about my Topshop Glow Highlighter and my No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter – they’re just SO PRETTY.
So there you have it, my hugely oversized highlighter collection. I may not use every highlighter on a daily basis but I love being able to switch between them all. Do you have a highlighter obsession? What are your favourites?
