I’ve always liked to be healthy, but a month or so ago I decided that I should be doing more, and so, I joined the gym. I knew I wanted to get in better shape, so that not only did I look better, but also so that I felt happier in myself. My friend is a personal trainer, and so, over lunch with her, I was able to ask about all the best ways to get in shape for beginners. Not just about working out but also about the best things to eat. After all, when it comes to getting in shape, it is 80% food and just 20% exercise.
The problem is for a lot of us, that when it comes to losing weight and toning up, we don’t know how to go about it. Navigating our way through the various exercise plans, weight loss supplements, and best ways to get in shape can be a struggle. I was the same, until I had a chat with my friend who’s a personal trainer and started to get a better idea of what I needed to do to shed the extra pounds and transform my body to be the best it can be.
It’s not about the calories, it’s also about what you’re eating. If you want to lose weight and get in shape it’s essential that you eat clean. This means cutting all processed foods out of your diet – yes that does include chocolate! The good news is that although milk chocolate has to go, you can still enjoy raw chocolate. (It’s much nicer than it sounds – I promise!) The best way to make clean eating easier is make all your food yourself, from scratch. Or, as much as your food as possible. I make all my own sauces, bread – I recently got a breadmaker, snacks – chocolate, nut butter & banana brownies are a favourite of mine. (I use Wow Butter – a peanut butter alternative as I have a nut allergy.) Going back to calories, aim to eat no less than 1400 calories a day, else you’ll starve yourself.
Make water your go-to
I have a serious love of cranberry juice but in order to cut empty calories and sugar from my diet, I’ve cut it out. Now, all I tend to drink is water or water-based drinks. I great trick for making water a little more fun is to infuse it with fruit or invest in a Soda Stream and have soda water. Drinking water with lemon can also be a great option as lemon helps to cleanse the body and prevents bloating.
Use the right supplements
When it comes to losing weight, supplements for weight loss can be a fantastic help. There are certain supplements and vitamins that can be a fantastic help when it comes to shedding those extra pounds and getting in shape. Detox teas like Slimming Solutions Teatox is a great option as are meal replacement shakes. There are plenty of supplements to choose from, it’s just a case of finding the ones that work best for you.
Workout in the most effective way possible
It might be 80% diet and 20% exercise but that doesn’t mean you can slack when it comes to working out. If you want to get into the best shape of your life, you need to workout in the most effective way possible. Instead of simply working out in the gym, join classes like spinning and pilates because they push you more. You’re more likely to do more if you’ve got other people around you – you can’t quit when it gets tough because you’re in a class. Instead of driving everywhere, walk when you can. The more active you can be, the better.
