Unfortunately, 2020 has been a year where many people have lost their jobs. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many businesses have had to close, and while some will hopefully be back, others will not open again. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the most recent unemployment rate, which is from July to September – was 4.8%. This is an increase of 0.7% over the previous three months and means that 1.62 million people are unemployed. While things may look bleak, the pandemic has also provided many opportunities in other industries, so if you’re looking for a job, even if you can’t go back to your industry just now, there are other things that you could do to help you get a little extra money in your pocket. Check out these ideas for some inspiration.

Warehouse Operator

With the number of people doing their shopping online now as they either have no choice as they’re in lockdown or they are shielding, there is more and more demand for warehouses. The companies are investing more in making their services more efficient and implementing technology and ways on how to reduce dispatch errors. This could be an excellent job for someone who is looking to keep busy and do something worthwhile during the pandemic.

Virtual Assistant

As most people are now working from home, they realise the benefits to this, and many businesses are looking for ways to continue offering this way of working. As working remotely becomes more popular, people are looking for virtual assistants so if you’re looking for a role where you can work from home and manage how many hours you work each week then this could be something for you.

Food Delivery

Deliveroo, Just Eat and UberEats have never been busier, and as there is an increase in orders and an increase in suppliers, there is a demand for more people to deliver. If you have a car or even a bike, sign up to work for one of these companies, and again you can manage how much or as little as you work and when you work. It’s an excellent way to keep busy and to keep fit at the same time as earning some money.

Shop Delivery

It’s not just food which is being delivered; it’s everything and anything now so supermarkets need delivery drivers and so do other shops who may never have offered delivery before. Amazon Flex is a great way to earn extra money and manage your hours too.

Carers/COVID Staff

Whether it’s caring for people in your community who can’t go out or working at a test centre, there are a number of jobs which you can do to really help with the pandemic and make a difference. The NHS has many urgent positions that need filling and that way you’ll know that you have really done your bit and contributed where it mattered most.

You never know, you could find yourself in a new role now which could actually lead onto bigger and better things that you never expected.
