Of all the things that us girls dread, aging has to be at the very top of the list. The truth is, once you reach 21, you no longer want to get any older – you wish you could freeze time and stay exactly as you are for the rest of your life. (Well, that’s how I felt, anyway!) Of course, that’s not a possibility. One day it might be, but right now we have to deal with the fact that sooner or later we will start to age.

A common misconception that a lot of us have is that the aging process doesn’t begin until you’re in your thirties. Unfortunately, this isn’t true. The aging process begins in your mid-twenties, so that’s when you really need to start getting into good skin care habits. If you want to be able to retain that youthful glow and that silky smooth texture your skin has, it’s crucial to take anti-aging skin care seriously.

The question that a lot of us struggle with is how do you do that? What’s the best way to protect your skin from aging and keeping it looking youthful for longer? I’ve done some digging and found all the best tips that dermatologists swear by. So, for everything that you need to know, keep reading.

Get into good skin care habits

The most important thing when it comes to protecting your skin from aging is, believe it or not, having a good skincare routine. It’s not just a case of applying face cream when you remember, you need to be cleansing, toning, and moisturising at least once a day. If you go to bed with makeup, dirt, and oil on your face, it will damage your skin and make it more prone to the signs of aging. Hence why cleansing and toning is so important. If you don’t moisturise your skin, it will dry out, and again, become more prone to the signs of aging. See the pattern here? If you don’t get into good skin care habits, you’ll be more likely to age prematurely. Oh, and the most important thing of all – wear sunscreen every day, come rain or shine. Seriously, for skin, this is a lifesaver.

Treat your skin

Did you know that there are hundreds of specialist skincare treatments that can help to keep your skin looking more youthful for longer? I’m not talking about cosmetic surgery – we won’t go down that route. I’m talking about facials, microdermabrasion, and Lightfusion photo facials. These are the treatments that can slow the aging process and keep your skin looking younger for longer. Take microdermabrasion, for instance. This is a process where micro crystals are sprayed onto your skin to gently remove the top layer. This leaves your skin softer, smoother, and brighter. It’s a fantastic form of exfoliation that has some amazing results.

Use the best products

There are SO many anti-aging creams, balms, and masks on the market that it can be hard to know what’s best to invest in. Of all the anti-aging products, a good eye cream is the most important. This is because the skin under the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, and so, is more prone to the signs of aging. The other product that it can be worth using is retinol creams, as these can actually reverse the signs of aging. It might sound mad, but it’s true – retinol is able to prevent the breakdown of collagen, leading to more youthful looking skin. The best thing about it being – it’s safe to use from your early twenties onwards. Just make sure to opt for a low strength cream – save the good stuff for later in life when your skin really needs it.

Want your skin to stay looking youthful for years? Then it’s crucial that you take anti-aging skin care seriously, regardless of your age.
