When I go on holiday, I always like to digitally detox. The world is already an extremely tech-orientated place, so when I head off on a break away, I prefer to spend some quality time detoxing from the technology that has become a crucial aspect of modern life. I really do believe that every traveller should switch off and detox when they go away, as by doing so you are able to have a more enjoyable, less stressful and more restful getaway.

Wondering what the benefits are of digitally detoxing and how you can go about doing so? Read on for everything that you need to know…

What are the benefits of digital detoxing?

You may not realise it but technology puts a large amount of pressure on your daily life, causing a lot of stress and strain, particularly in relation to your mental health. It’s no surprise then that digital detox holidays have become an increasingly popular trend, with more and more people choosing to take a break away from modern life and detox from technology.

There are many benefits of taking some time away from technology, from being able to spend time with loved ones that doesn’t include having a mobile device in your hand and make quality memories that will last a lifetime to being able to take mindfulness more seriously. Being mindful isn’t posing on a cliff top in the lotus position and taking a photo for Instagram. This might look like self-care but actually it’s not even close.

If you’re going to take mindfulness more seriously, you actually need to do things that aid your mental health. You need to have screen-free time, find hobbies that calm your mind and reduce feelings of stress, such as adult colouring, reading, or practicing yoga regularly.

Where can you go to digitally detox?

If you want to have an offline holiday where you can digitally detox, you might be wondering what you should do and where you should go. The answer to these questions is that it’s completely up to you: how you choose to digitally detox is your choice. There are lots of options to choose from, it’s just a case of choosing the one that’s the best fit for your needs.

When it comes to choosing a destination for your digital detox trip, it’s a good idea to select somewhere where switching off from the modern world will be easier. Look for somewhere that has patchy phone signal and limited access to the internet, such as Bali or Colombo, for instance.

You want to select somewhere that has plenty to see and do, so that you won’t be bored and will have plenty to keep you occupied. Somewhere like Tenerife, Ibiza or Dubai could be the ideal destination for a digital detox holiday, as there’s lots of sun and plenty of beaches to soak up the rays on, as well as plenty of cultural areas to explore, should you want to.
