I’ve been running La Blog Beaute for over five years, and in that time I’ve learnt a lot about what it takes to build and sustain a blog. The key to success really does lay in two things: creativity and productivity. If you’re going to be a successful blogger, you need to be a highly creative thinker, as well as someone who is extremely productive. For the first few years, running a blog is a labour of love – you get little out of it – and so it’s important that you are willing to put the time into making it successful. 


The question is, of course, what steps can you take to go about doing that? What does it take to actually build and sustain a blog? (Don’t worry, I’ve got the inside scoop – it’s actually far easier than you would think.)

Design your own artwork 


If you’re able to design your own artwork, you can save yourself a lot of time and money, so it’s within your best interests as a blogger to learn how to create your own artwork. When I first started out designing my own artwork, I struggled a little to get the look right. However, over time I learnt all of the best hacks for creating beautiful artwork to incorporate into my blog, and it became far simpler and easier. 


I would say that if you’re new to creating your own digital artwork and you’re not sure how to go about it, it’s worthwhile taking the time to watch some online tutorials. That’s what I did, and I found it extremely useful for learning as much as possible about creating my own unique artwork. Plus, I began to really enjoy it; there’s something extremely empowering about taking full ownership of your blog and its social media channels. 


When it comes to designing, I often use Design Bundles as I love the wide range of options available to choose from. From blog header designs to embroidery design, there are so many options available. 


Come up with unique angles for campaigns 


When I’m selected for a campaign working with a brand, I always like to take the time to think carefully about how I can come up with my own unique angle for the campaign in question. When you’re running a blog, you need to know how to make yourself – and your site – stand out for all of the right reasons. I always find that coming up with my own unique spin on a brand campaign allows me to make my site stand out. 


The more creative you can be when it comes to your approach to a brand campaign, the better. It’s important to think about how to approach different campaigns carefully, and take the time to consider what would work well for the brand and your audience. If you’re ever unsure of an angle, it’s always best to speak to the brand – or the PR firm who are handling the campaign – about your idea, to see what their thoughts are on it. 


Master photography 


We’re lucky today, as there are so many options when it comes to stock photography. However, if you want to make your blog stand out, it’s far better to master your own photography skills and learn to create your own unique photographs for your blog and social media channels. Now, this is something that I have struggled with in the past; I’ve found taking the time to learn how to take clear, professional-looking photos a little tricky. However, I’ve made it a priority, and as a result, I have been able to improve and enhance my photography skills.
